I think the problem of carrying grouses has got something to do with character-traits and stress. Very often submissive persons are at the receiving end from aggressive and dominant persons and find themselves in familiar Lose/Win situations. There are certain things important to them, which they want to do but are unable to do because of their submissive nature. This creates stress in them and since stress is additive, the frustration builds up. Its like the water level in a dam --if it goes on rising above the maximum permissible level, the dam breaks. Unduly high levels of stress affect productivity adversely.
The person has to prevent frustration from building up. He must become assertive. He has to perform the very difficult task of consistently creating propositions that work for himself and for others around him. Otherwise work is going to be miserable especially if it involves a lot of interaction with others.
